Let me be messy,  Mommy,

for this is how I am;

For this is how I can learn

to crawl, to walk, to stand.

Let me use my hands, Mommy,

to explore things outside of me;

For that is how I can learn about

the grass, the sand, the sea.

Let me touch mud, Mommy,

and run through puddles and the rain.

For that is what happiness is to a kid —

just being me and not being ashamed.

Let me fall once in a while,  Mommy,

Even though I’d hurt, it’s okay.

This would teach me about my strength

and learning from my mistakes.

I know you love me, Mommy.

I know that you deeply care.

That’s why I am much confident

that you will always be there.

Let me be messy, Mommy,

Even if you are scared.

For this is how I learn about life —

through my joys and my tears.
